Brief HistoryOrigin of the university goes back to the year 1834 that makes it oldest in Arkansas and one of the oldest on the western side of the River Mississippi. Founded by Cumberland Presbyterians as Cane Hill College in Washington County of Arkansas, it was succeeded by the Arkansas Cumberland College , Clarksville in 1891. Name of the college was changed to the College of the Ozarks in 1920 and it migrated to the status of university in the year 1987.
